Comments

We will try comments this session. Only make encouraging comments. Practice your leadership skills and be respectful. Also be mindful of our purpose to develop writing skills and a blog you are proud to show your audience!

Here are some ideas when you comment:

  • Respectfully ask a question.
  • Tell them that you like something in their post and explain why.
  • Please pay attention to your writing. Write in complete sentences and be careful of your choice of words as you type your comments. Remember netiquette.
When your classmates comment on your blog, you may then respond back to them.

Important, Important, Important!

Identify yourself! Everyone has the same username, so in order to know who created a post or made a comment, put your FIRST NAME in the TITLE and LABELS of each post you write! If you make comments, also include your first name.

Date.  Put the date: Sunday, Monday, etc. in the TITLE and the LABELS.

Design.
Do NOT change ANYTHING.

Collaborate together as a team!
Help each other and share your knowlege! Ask each other questions before asking Cheridy :-) Edit with your partner.

Work on blogging during this time!  It will go by quickly.  Do not check your email, facebook, etc.  Use this time to blog.

Blogging Basics: How to post, add a picture, publish, and edit

Here are some basic directions for adding a post.

A post is what you are reading right now. It has words and may have either a picture or a short video clip. (Due to time, we will not add video clips.) To add a post, first be sure you are signed in. You do this by clicking on the Sign In on the upper right hand corner. Cheridy will give you the username and password.

Then follow these directions:
1. Click on New Post in the upper right hand corner.
2. Create a title for your post that describes your post. Include your FIRST NAME so we know who created it!  Also include the day-- Sunday.
3. Type your post in the box. ( Practice writing skills that are appropriate for your audience. Use complete sentences, think about punctuation and capitalization, respectful language, etc. You may use Spanish or English.)

4.  Add labels.  In the Labels box, type your name and the day-- Sunday, Monday, etc.  This will make it easier to find and display all of your posts.

Here is how you add a picture to a post:
1. Click on the box icon that looks like a picture. (If you put your cursor on top of it, it will say, "insert image.")
2. Upload a picture from the Picasa Album.
3. Drag your picture around in your post to find a happy home for it.  You can resize it and center it the way you want it.

Ready to publish?

When you are ready to publish your post, click on the orange box that says, "Publish Post." Now, everyone can view your post and make comments!  If you are not quite ready to publish, but want to save your post to work on it the next day, click on "Save" and return to it later.

Editing your post.

Now, imagine your English teacher telling you, "Don't forget editing. It's part of the writing process!" You may edit your post by clicking on New Post in the upper right hand corner and then on Edit Posts in the upper left hand corner. You should then see a list of posts. Find your post and edit it. Publish it after you make changes.

Happy posting!

Blogging Considerations

Here are some things we need to consider as we create our blogs.

1.
Our blog's purpose:

  • To showcase our experiences in the institute.
  • To reflect upon concepts covered in class and in activities during the institute.
  • To work as a team to create a unique blog.
  • To practice writing skills for our audience.
  • To have fun and create memories!
2. Our audience

  • Sponsors
  • Oregon Migrant Coordinators and Staff
  • Parents
  • Other participants
3. Appropriate netiquette:

  • Be respectful! Participation in this blog is a privelege. If disrespectful behavior is exhibited, you will loose this privelege.
4. Privacy and online safety issues
  • Only use your first name
  • Do not give information such as your school or age.
Please be mindful of each of these ideas everytime you make a blog post or comment! We are here to learn and to encourage each other in a respectful manner.

Happy blogging!
