Tuesday Post Directions

Below are some ideas for blog posts.  Do as many as you want.  Aim for quality, not quantity.

Step 1.  Talk to a partner.  A. Edit Monday's post if you need to.  B.  Decide what you want your first post to be about.  Talk to your partner about your ideas.

POST POSSIBILITIES

  • Finish any unpublished posts from Mon.
  • Use your journal from class. Choose an entry or two and put it on the blog. (Make sure it is something you are comfortable sharing with your audience.)
  • Write about a topic from class: developing relationships, understanding potential, communication, leadership, choices, goal setting, problem solving, team work, leadership, etc.
  • Write about some activities you have done: Campus Tour, Kickball, Getting up at 6:00 to run, Challenge Course, Bowling, Bridge of Knowledge, and Dodgeball, blogging.
  • Apply what you are learning: What are some ways that you can take what you have been learning back to your school and apply them?
Step 2: Edit with a partner. (Read it out loud.)

  • Does it have your name and the day in the title and labels?
  • Do all of your sentences begin with a capital letter and end with punctuation?
  • Is your "I" capitalized? It doesn't want to be a small i. Don't hurt it's feelings.
  • Is everything spelled correctly? (You can use the spell checker.)
  • Can you or your partner think of any details or descriptive adjectives/adverbs that can make it more interesting?
Happy blogging!

Tuesday Writing Process

You're going pro with your blogging skills! Today's your day to choose your own topics. (See the post above this for some possibilities.) After you finish a post, edit with a partner in your group and discuss what you will post about next.
This walks us thru a "quick" version of the writing proccess:

  • choose topic
  • write
  • edit
  • publish!
At each point in the process, it's a good idea to talk about and share our writing with others!
Happy blogging!

Step 2 Monday Post Directions

You do not have to answer these in order. They are ideas to get you started. Talk to a partner first. Remember to describe and develop your answers.

: Describe your experience at the challenge course. What did you do? What were your goals? Did you accomplish them? How did you feel before, during, and after the experience? What did you learn?

Possible starters:
  • When I first got at the challenge course, I felt... because
  • During the challenge course, I felt .... because
  • After the challenge course, I felt.... because
  • I learned..... about myself from this experience.
  • (See Sunday's Picture Perfect post for ideas and useful transition words.)
Use descriptive adjectives and adverbs.  You may wish to use one of these sites, Lexipedia or Synonyms For to help you find synonyms. Think carefully about your word choice and make sure it is appropriate for your audience.

Post #2: What did you learn about yourself today? What did you learn about your potential? Explain. How will you use this knowledge to make yourself a stronger leader?

Post #3:
What was the most fun thing you did and why? How did you feel about yourself?

Step 1 Monday: Edit Sunday's Post

OMLI rocks. Say it with me... You did an awesome job on your first posts. Every writer knows that writing requires some rewriting. It's fun stuff!
Before you blog about your activities on Monday, do the following: (5 min)
  • Find your post in the "Edit" mode.
    • Find YOUR group blog!
    • Go to New Post in the upper right hand corner.
    • Click on Edit Posts.
    • Find your post and click on Edit.
  • Look at your post and edit it with a partner. (Read it out loud with your partner!)
    • Does it have your name and day in the title and labels?
    • Does the title describe the post's content?
    • Do all of your sentences begin with a capital letter and end with punctuation?
    • Is your "I" capitalized? It doesn't want to be a small i. Don't hurt it's feelings.
    • Is everything spelled correctly? (You can use the spell checker.)
    • Is it appropriate for your audience?  (Smiley faces, slang vs. professional.)
    • Can you suggest a way for your partner to develop his/her ideas or to add details?
  • Publish your changes!
Happy blogging!
